COBISS3 software requires a personal computer of a later date, internet connection and one of the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Linux or Apple Macintosh OS X.
The COBISS software supports only certain types of:
- barcode readers,
- handheld terminals, and
- signature pads.
Full integration of a RFID scanner at the lending desk with the COBISS3/Loan software module (scanning the material, setting material protection, etc.) is enabled through a special interface implemented by the supplier. The integration with the COBISS3/Loan software module is direct and full with the application software. The use of indirect modes of integration offered by suppliers is not advisable.
The data between devices for automated loan (self-checkout, lending kiosks, material sorting devices, sensor gates, units for RFID label creation, etc.) with the COBISS3/Loan software module is transferred via the SIP2 protocol.
The installation of the Java programming language for Microsoft Windows or Linux/Apple Macintosh is required for the COBISS3 software.
The installation of a client with the COBISS3 user interface is required to access servers with the COBISS3 software.
The folder C:\Cobiss3Files and the system variable COBISS_DIR with the value C:\Cobiss3Files can be created by a system administrator either manually or by using the installation software. Both the folder and the variable are required to ensure the correct operation of peripheral devices (e.g. RFID devices, POS terminals, certificates, etc.). They can be created by using the installation software as follows:
To use peripheral devices in COBISS Lib such as printers, RFID panels, cash register drawer, etc., the library must install the COBISS DGW service. This enables communication between the COBISS Lib application and peripheral devices. This is also needed for tax confirmation of invoices. More about the COBISS DGW and COBISS Lib service can be found at the link. The COBISS DGW service is also required for users of RFID devices in COBISS3. The procedure for installing the COBISS DGW service and editing the settings is described in the instructions Installing and setting COBISS DGW service.
